New Club Coach Announced!

br_1It is with great pleasure and excitement that the General Committee of the Preston Cricket Club announces Ben Ryan as Coach of the Club for the 2010/2011 Season.

Ben is a second generation Preston player, with his father Michael having represented Preston at First XI level in the mid 1970’s. Ben has been back representing Preston for the last two seasons, and brings a great deal of experience and cricketing knowledge to Preston. His resume speaks for itself-

- VSDCA First XI Player- Preston and Caulfield
- Premiership Player 1st and 2nd XI’s at Preston and Caulfield
- Championship Player at Preston and Caulfield
- Premiership Captain/Coach at the Warragul Cricket Club
- Manager/Coach of Preston’s Hatch Squad 1992/1993
- Assistant Coach of Preston for Seasons 2008/2009 and 2009/2010

Ben will be also looking after Preston’s Under 17’s squad this season, and I know will be pushing for all elevens, both senior and juniors, to finals success.

Ben will be contacting all players in the not too distant future with pre-season training arrangements. Please join me in congratulating Ben on his appointment. Ben can be emailed - ben.ryan@prestoncricketclub.com.au - if you have any questions regarding the season ahead.

Have a safe Queens Birthday Long Weekend.

Kind Regards

Sean Harrison
President

Sacred Heart Primary, Milo, Preston - Winners all round!

Recently, Preston Cricket Club was invited to a "Sports Expo" at local primary school - Sacred Heart - where along with football, tennis and netball clubs we ran 4 x 20 min Milo sessions for Grade 1 through to Grade 4 boys and girls.in2CRICKETlogo

Jon Hyde, Tim Jessel and Peter Norris attended the event and worked together to put on a great display to the youngsters who were eager to continue once the final whistle blew.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Sacred Heart Primary for the invitation and the chance to show what Preston Cricket Club can offer to juniors in the area. We very much look forward to seeing many boys and girls at Cramer Street this year when Milo commences in October 2010

List of cricket terms - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

wiki1

Cricket is a team sport played between two teams of eleven. It is known for its rich terminology. Some terms are often thought to be arcane and humorous by those not familiar with the game.

This is a general glossary of the terminology used in the sport of cricket. Where words in a sentence are also defined elsewhere in this article, they appear in italics. Certain aspects of cricket terminology are explained in more detail in cricket statistics and the naming of fielding positions is explained at fielding (cricket).

A

Agricultural shot

this is a swing across the line of the ball (resembling a scything motion) played without much technique. Often one that results in a chunk of the pitch being dug up by the bat. A type of a slog.

Thanks to Marshall for recommending we add this information to our website. I am sure we will learn something or at least have a laugh at some of the terminology used.
